Sonny & The Sunsets

I fall deeply in love at least once a week.  The latest object of my affection is Sonny Smith of Sonny & The Sunsets.

We saw this dreamboat play on Saturday at Glasslands for the last show of their tour.  Sonny is a charming and witty performer with Elvis-style-hip-swangin’ that parents used to ban their kids from seeing.  The onstage banter with the rest of the band was engaging – It felt like we were all just hangin’ out at a bar.

Sonny & The Sunsets were promoting their most recent album, Longtime Companion, released this year.  For Longtime Companion, Sonny takes off his surfer cap and dons a straw cowboy hat.  To be honest, the first couple of times I listened to this album, I wasn’t too excited about it.  However, seeing them actually perform the songs made me give it another listen.  It’s definitely growing on me.
